What the article says
- The mayor of Cabanes, Virginia Martí, and the councillor for beaches, David Casanova, met in Madrid with the Director General for the Coast and the Sea, Ana María Oñoro Valenciano. They were assured that no house in the seaside village of Torre de la Sal would be demolished.
- The Government’s sub-delegate in Castellón, Antonia García Valls, also took part in the meeting.
- According to the mayor, the current Coastal Act poses a great risk to Torre de la Sal, and the most important thing is to give legal certainty to the owners affected.
- The file opened by the Directorate General for the Coast and the Sea, part of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, does not recognise the residents’ ownership of the houses and assumes the land is public domain. The town council is urging the Congress of Deputies to reform Coastal Act 22/1988.
- The Audiencia Nacional (Spain’s National High Court) has admitted the appeal lodged by Cabanes town council against the coastal authority.
